For optimum heat retention the front back and arms of the jacket feature low-bulk PrimaLoft insulation sandwiched between 20D ripstop nylon to provide focused warmth where you need it. To help regulate temperature and moisture the underarms and side panels use extra-breathable DryRide Softshell fabric that effectively evacuates excess body moisture especially when used in conjunction with the underarm zips of your shell jacket. By using these two different materials in different areas of the upper body the Helium Jacket is able to keep you warmer drier and more comfortable than a midlayer with uniform insulation throughout. On long hikes or warmer days the Helium Jacket can easily be used as an outer layer when your shell gets too hot thanks to a DWR treatment that provides a first line of defense against moisture penetration. Zippered handwarmer pockets give you ample storage or a place to put your hands when they get cold and a fleece-lined collar is friendly to the chin when you have to zip it up and keep in the warmth.
